TEXAS TEEN BOOK FESTIVAL WAS A BLAST!

Literary Math Problem:

The HCMS Library took 29 students, 2 adults, and 1 bus to the Texas Teen Book Festival at St. Edward's University on Saturday, September 26.  They left at 9:15am and returned at 6:00pm.  How much fun did they have?

Answer: LOADS and LOADS of fun!

That's right!  We had a blast meeting our favorite authors and discovering new authors!  We bought loads of books, listened to authors speak about writing, life, and the universe, and met new people.  The St. Edward's University campus is beautiful and our students also got a glimpse of university life.

We even made it into the Publisher's Weekly Article!  Woot!

Library Lovers definition:

A group of students who plan library events, design book displays, maintain our little free library, 

update the library's social media sites, and bring coolness to the library.  

The group will meet every Tuesday during Advisory.

We had such a huge response, that we are going to have an application process.

SWEET STORY

My mom sent this story to me.  It's short, simple, and sweet.

It's a reminder that there are kids out there less fortunate than me, who want books, but don't have access.  And it reminds me that a little can go a long way.

YOU JUST HAVE TO RETURN THEM IN AUGUST DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL.

TEXAS TEEN BOOK FESTIVAL - KEYNOTE ANNOUNCED!

Texas Teen Book Festival 2015!

It’s that time of year again – time to gear up for the Texas Teen Book Festival! The announcements of the awesome authors attending the 2015 festival are starting to come out. Today, it was announced that Sonia Manzano, known to many people as “Maria” on Sesame Street, will be the keynote speaker!!!!


Manzano will be talking about her upcoming memoir, Becoming Maria: Love and Chaos in the South Bronx. We are so excited by this news! It is a great start and can’t wait to hear who else will be coming to Austin this fall.

To start planning your visit, information about attending this year’s festival is up, and you can keep it tuned here for author line up & programming announcements.

New for this year, is a fiction writing contest sponsored by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books. You know Delacorte as the publisher of Carrie Ryan (The Forest of Hands & Teeth), James Dashner (The Maze Runner), Matt De La Pena (The Hunted), Ann Brashares (The Here and Now), Frank Portman (King Dork), and Libba Bray (Going Bovine). Delacorte’s got YA chops, to be sure. There is a deadline – July 1! – so be sure to check out all the rules and entry form. Good luck and happy writing!
