SPRING BOOK 2016

SPRING BREAK = SPRING BOOK

Don't take a break from reading this Spring Break!
Take a SPRING BOOK!  READ, READ, READ!

Participate in our Spring Book 2016 Event. 

Here's how it works:

  • Wherever you read this spring break, be it on the couch at home, at the Springs, or on the slopes, snap a picture of you and your book.
  • Pin your location on our Spring Book 2016 map (below)
    1. Click on the link above or Click the "View Larger Map" icon in the top right-hand corner of the map below
    2. Click the blue "Sign In" button in the top, right-hand corner and sign in with your gmail account 
    3. Click "Edit" on the left-hand side
    4. Click the "Add Marker" icon along the top and drop your pin OR Type your location in the search bar and hit enter
  • Add your name and picture of you and your book
  • Win a prize when you get back to school
We've got LOADS and LOADS of new books AND tons of oldie but goodies!

So stop on by the library before the break to stock up on some good reads.

AUTHOR VISIT!!!

The author of the fantastical Thickety series is coming to visit HCMS 6th graders next Monday, February 29!  The Thickety is on this year's Lone Star reading list and is the first in the series.

The Library is selling all 3 books in the series!  So buy your copy today before they run out.  And don't forget to get them signed by the author next Monday!  Order forms are in the library, or you can download it HERE.  

Even though this author visit is for 6th graders, any student can purchase the books and get them signed.

In the spirit of March Madness, HCMS Library is hosting MARCH BOOK MADNESS!  We'll be participating with other schools in the world to vote for our favorite FANTASY vs REALITY books.  Each week in March, Fantasy and Reality books will battle for your votes.  

You don't have to read them all to participate.  But reading as many as you can is always a bonus.

Teen Book Festivals Galore!

YAK Fest 2016 is coming on Saturday, January 30, 2016!  Make plans now to attend Keller ISD’s fifth annual young adult book festival at Keller ISD’s
Keller Central High School from 9:00 AM5:00 PM.
Hear from 29 amazing YA authors such as Julie Murphy (keynote speaker), Michael Buckley, Jessica Brody, Lauren Oliver, Robison Wells, Kimberly Derting, Lindsay Cummings, Victoria Scott, Alex London, and many more! There will also be workshop rooms devoted to writing stories, writing poetry, storytelling, and anime illustration. Check out the YAK Fest website  to see a list of all the authors and the schedule for the day.  

Yes, YAK Fest is FREE and open to all middle and high school students and adults that love to read YA literature. But remember to bring money to purchase books, food, drinks, & t-shirts. Food trucks will be on site to sell BBQ, pizza, & sandwiches. More food and drinks will be available for purchase inside the school so plan to eat your morning snack, lunch, & dessert at YAK Fest.

AND...

YAY! The Texas Teen Book Festival announced the date for #TTBF 2016 today! TTBF 2016 will be at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas on Saturday, October 1st!
